On Saturday, February 2, we had our clothing sale in our village, Guadalupe Victoria. On Friday, Pati came to my house, and we walked the streets of the village, announcing at every house that we would be selling very nice clothes at a very cheap price. Although we attempted to set the clothing sale for a day in which the people would have enough money to purchase clothes among other necessities such as rent and food, we failed. Or rather, I should say, the government failed. The people should have received their government checks (equal to welfare) on the previous Monday, but instead, because the holidays, the checks were week late. With only three days left until their tardy checks arrived, the people were never poorer than the day we had our sale!
However, the Lord knew our needs, and fulfilled them. Nearly 45 people came to the sale. Before the doors were opened (we hosted the sale in our living room), we had an outreach with music, and very profound message by Greg Wilke. He spoke about “The Words of The Mother Mary.” He spoke on many passages in the Bible where Mary spoke, or where she was spoken about, and pointed every word toward Jesus Christ. In the final moments of his sermon, he spoke the last words of Jesus’ mother that are recorded in the book of Matthew: She said, “Do Just As He Says,” in regards to speaking with the servants at the wedding feast where Jesus performed his first miracle of creating wine from water. Greg asked the audience, “Will you do as He says? Will you follow him?” With this question, he spoke about putting all behind and living for Christ. The message was very tough, but also very poignant, since this entire village is immersed in Roman Catholicism.
The clothes were nearly wiped out. We sold all children’s clothes for 50 cents each, and all adult’s clothes for $1.00 each. We also offered layaway until the following week. The people nearly wiped out all the clothes, and we made just under $160! These funds will be used to begin the construction project of a roof over the rooms of Uriel’s extension on his house. We are grateful to everyone in the states who participated in offering us clothes for this sale, for the people were truly blessed!
