On Sunday, February 17, we visited the small town of etchejoa (etch-eh-ho-ah). This town is outside of the large city of Huatabampo, which is just an hour from our village, and is made up of many small villages and neighborhoods that are scattered with shacks and shanties. These homes are one-room homes that are made of sticks and plastic for the walls. The bathrooms are holes in the ground surrounded by plastic, and the houses are barely standing in these tumultuous winds of the spring season.
In these homes where the poorest of poor dwell, there is a church springing up, and the brothers and sisters were delighted that we came to visit them. Greg Wilke and his family, our family and Pascual, and Uriel Amaya and his family all piled together along with other brothers and sisters of the villages in three vehicles, and traveled the hour to Etchojoa to bring gifts of toothbrushes, clothes, and tracks and Bibles.
We shared children’s songs, adult praise and worship music, testimonies, and a message, and had a children’s class. We gave out lots of clothes and items, and the Christians were delighted to received tracks, Bibles, Bible studies, and most of all, fellowship. Everyone wanted to know when we would return!
Our main focus is ministering to the villages surrounding our own small area, but lately, the church that is growing under the leadership of Greg Wilke and Joshua has become increasingly interested in ministry beyond the homes of the believers. These outreaches have been great opportunities for the believers to experience missions in their own country and to minister beyond their own villages.
